“Everyone should have friends…”

….like the Senior Citizens Fund of Newton Inc (SCFN). You may have noticed recently added to our grounds, beautiful new fencing. This improvement and many others over the years are a result of SCFN’s commitment to their mission of supporting The Newton Senior Center. You may be interested to know that in the past SCFN has funded:

  • The purchase of all the furnishings and equipment for the opening of the Newton Senior Center in October 1993

  • The original computer equipment that allowed us to launch our successful Computer Learning Program

  • The start up funds for the Weekend Program that ran for many years

  • The kitchen equipment that let us transition to a “restaurant-style” lunch program

  • The design and furnishing of the Park at the Newton Senior Center

  • The expense of the Senior Center National Accreditation process

  • The establishment of and Emergency Relief Fund that the department social workers can access on behalf of people they are assisting

  • Many building needs that allow us to continue meeting the original vision for providing a warm welcoming environment that reflects the value of and investment in making Newton a place where people choose to age.

SCFN, a private non-profit organization, sends an annual Fall fundraising letter out to the community to ask for donations to support the needs of the Newton Senior Center that are otherwise unable to be budgeted from traditional sources.
Look for this Fall’s letter and find out how you can become one of the Senior Center’s “friends”. For more information call Jayne Colino @ 617-796-1671.
