Legal Clinic

Richmond Room, Lower Level

The Center is fortunate to host law students from Boston College who visit once a month to consult on legal matters. They are closely supervised by an attorney and offer this service at no cost. Please call in advance for an appointment. Appointments suspended during June, July, and August.

 

Senior Parking Stickers

Stickers are sold to any citizen over 65 years of age, with a valid Newton registration. License and registration should be presented at time of purchase. Stickers are $6 for 2 years. They entitle the bearer to park in any municipal parking lot at a 1hr or 3hr meter without charge for the first 1hr or 3hr period. Stickers are available at the Newton Senior Center.

SHINE
Wednesday, 1:00-3:00
Health Room, Lower Level

A representative of SHINE (Serving Health Information Needs of Elders) sees senior citizens by appointment (call 617-796-1660), about health insurance related questions. These may range from questions concerning charges and billing to choosing or changing carriers. This is part of a state and federal program and the representative is well-trained and supervised.

Social Work Department

The Social Work Department offers individuals, couples, and group counseling.  These services are provided free of charge.  The social work staff are available Monday - Friday on the Lower Level of the Senior Center.  Please call for an appointment. The Outreach Worker is available to help Senior Citizens access needed services. She will assist individuals at home, at the Center or by phone. Call for more information.

Volunteer Meetings
One Monday a month, 1:00 (See Calendar)
Library Lounge, Lower Level - or other location TBA.

In an effort to support and communicate with our large and varied volunteer corps, we hold monthly meetings. At these meetings information is disbursed and discussions are held about specific duties and general operations. These meetings are often used for volunteer training and planning of future programs.

Tax Assistance

Each year during tax season, Feb. 1 - April 15, the Senior Center offers tax assistance for those who need help completing their tax forms. These are volunteers trained and certified by AARP. Please call 617-796-1660 for an appointment.

Used Medical Equipment & More!

The social service department at the Newton Senior Center recycles used durable medical equipment and other small household items. (Equipment that is gently used and in good working order) If you would like to donate or are in need of an item, please call Kathy at 617-796-1663.
